WHAT CONSTITUTES A GOOD DENTAL CLEANING VISIT?
A good dental cleaning visit, or what we call a dental prophylaxis or ‘prophy’ for short, should typically involve removal of plaque, calculus (tartar), and superficial stain using hand instruments, a Cavitron (ultrasonic cleaner) and a cup with abrasive cleaner and a drill. There should be an educational component to the visit that is tailored to the patient’s specific oral health condition. The visit will typically conclude with a doctor examination. While everyone’s needs are unique, a visit should typically last between 40 mins to 1 hour. Some patients may have needs that exceed what can be done during this routine visit and will require further therapy. We believe that our hygiene department lead by our 4 excellent and experienced hygienists is the foundation of our dental practice and is the primary driver of our popularity in Davie. We have built a reputation for outstanding hygiene care and visits with our hygiene are very much in demand. We like to tell the public that you should expect excellence from your routine hygiene visits, even if not with us, because it will lay the foundation for a healthy mouth for a lifetime.
